It is a private company, limited by guarantee with charitable status; has an annual turnover of over £4 million and a professional staff of over 80 employees. The Chairman of BII is Martin Grant CMBII; and BII 's Chief Executive is John McNamara CMBII.
Membership

Membership eligibility
BII membership is available to those who possess a personal licence qualification; to students studying for a relevant hospitality qualification; and to those who are directly concerned with the day-to-day supervision of premises licensed for the retail sale of alcohol on or off the premises in any area of the licensed retail sector, including pubs, off-licences, restaurants, hotels and any other venue where alcohol is sold. BIIAB Qualifications
BIIAB offers a range of qualifications specifically designed for the licensed retail sector; with over 1 million qualifications having been taken so far.
BIIAB qualifications include the BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders, which satisfies the statutory requirement to qualify for a personal licence. To find out about our range of qualifications, click here.

Regional activity
BII is run by its members for its members. It has 16 regional councils which are committed to delivering true value from membership, at a local level. Part of the role of these regional councils is to ensure that our members’ views and issues are communicated to BII, and to act as a local network for other members.
Each Council runs a number of friendly, informal events throughout the year, both business orientated and social. Typical event subjects have included:

BII's Social Responsibilities Initiative
This initiative looks at the role of the licensed retail sector in reducing crime and disorder and has run a number of conferences on this subject.

BII also stages a number of national events and awards throughout the year including its AGM and Annual Luncheon, BII Licensee of the Year sponsored by Matthew Clark and the BII NITAs which reward training excellence in licensed retailing.
